No matter which office you see us at or how far you’ve traveled to see us, we want your experience to be a positive one. Dr. Stalder and his team are here to guide you every step of the way, from your initial consultation to recovery and follow-up appointments.
Consultation(s)
✓ Meet with Dr Stalder’s team to discuss your goals and expectations
✓ Go over your health history, such as recent cancer treatment, family history, and current medications
✓ Together, we’ll select the surgical option that’s right for you (sometimes this requires tests and imaging to determine the best course of action)
✓ Order any necessary bloodwork and coordinate with your other doctors, such as oncologists
✓ Take photos and measurements as needed
✓ Discuss and estimate the cost of your procedure
✓ Talk about potential dates for surgery
✓ Provide instructions on how to prepare for your surgery
Preparation
✓ Our team will give you detailed instructions on how to prepare, depending on your selected procedure
✓ Preparation can include everything from washing with special soap to adjusting your medications to fasting
✓ Maintain healthy habits such as no drinking, no smoking, a balanced diet, and getting enough rest
✓ If you’re traveling to us for surgery, find a comfortable place to stay near the facility where we’ll operate
✓ Make sure your travel and lodging arrangements account for whether your procedure is inpatient or outpatient
✓ Set up a comfortable place to rest and recover in your home
✓ Schedule the appropriate amount of time off for your surgery and recovery
✓ Determine who will take you to your surgery and attend to you as you recover
Surgery
✓ Follow your surgeon’s pre-op instructions
✓ Get a good night’s sleep
✓ Give yourself plenty of time to get the facility where your procedure will be done (whether it’s ours or alongside your oncological surgeon)
Recovery
✓ Follow your surgeon’s instructions for hygiene, wound care, etc.
✓ Limit your activities as recommended by your surgeon
✓ Ensure there’s a place in your home where you can easily get all the things you need, such as water and medication
✓ Take the medications your surgeon prescribes, such as pain relievers and antibiotics
✓ Have a spouse, trusted friend, or family member to call on if you need anything
Follow-ups
✓ Your surgeon will schedule follow-up appointments to see how you’re healing and determine next steps
Keep in mind
Some complex, multistage procedures will require you to repeat this process or have multiple surgical sessions. This is especially true for things like staged implant reconstruction and revision surgery.
